Develop and implement tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities while staying compliant with applicable tax laws and regulations
Analyse business transactions, investments, and corporate structures to optimise tax efficiency and support financial objectives
Develop and implement transfer pricing policies that comply with local regulations and global guidelines, ensuring proper documentation and arm's length pricing of intra-group transactions
Ensure Tax Planning for the Group and all the business units
Identify, assess, and manage tax risks, including potential exposures related to tax laws, regulations, and changes in business operations
Implement controls and processes to mitigate tax-related risks
Communicate tax strategies, risks, and implications to senior management, the board of directors, and stakeholders
Tax compliance and reporting
Ensure accurate and timely preparation, filing, and submission of all tax returns, including income tax, VAT, transfer pricing documentation, and other applicable taxes
Oversee tax provision calculations and reporting for financial statements in accordance with relevant accounting standards
Leverage tax technology solutions and automation tools to enhance tax processes, improve accuracy, and streamline reporting and compliance
Ensure ethical tax practices and compliance with internal governance and ethical standards in all tax-related activities
Manage tax audits, inquiries, and disputes with tax authorities by coordinating responses, providing documentation, and negotiating settlements
Identify opportunities to enhance tax processes, reporting, and compliance through continuous improvement initiatives
Stay updated on changes in tax laws, regulations, and international tax developments that may impact the organization's tax position
Mergers, acquisitions, and transactions
Provide tax due diligence and structuring support for mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and other business transactions
Evaluate tax implications and risks associated with different transaction structures
Collaborate with other departments, such as legal, operations, and compliance, to ensure tax considerations are integrated into business decisions
Conduct thorough tax due diligence to assess the target Groups historical tax positions, compliance status, potential tax exposures, and tax attributes
Identify any existing or potential tax liabilities that could impact the transaction's valuation and structure
Evaluate transfer pricing arrangements between related entities involved in the transaction to ensure compliance with arm's length principles and local regulations
Develop a tax-efficient integration or restructuring plan to align the merged or acquired entities with the buyer's existing structure and operations
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements related to tax filings, approvals, and notifications required for transactions
Review and address the tax implications of employee benefits, stock options, and other compensation arrangements for the Group
VAT optimisation
Conduct strategic planning and oversight to ensure that the Group effectively manages its VAT liabilities, maximizes VAT recovery, and maintains compliance with relevant tax regulations
Establish robust processes for documenting and tracking eligible input VAT on business expenses to ensure accurate VAT recovery
Provide guidance on structuring business transactions, contracts, and agreements to optimize VAT treatment and minimize VAT costs
Analyse and optimise VAT treatment for cross-border transactions, ensuring compliance with place of supply rules and VAT regulations
Evaluate eligibility for VAT exemptions, zero-rating, and special schemes that may apply to specific goods, services
Strategically plan capital expenditures to optimise VAT recovery on purchases of assets, property, and equipment
Collaborate with procurement and vendor management teams to ensure that suppliers provide accurate VAT documentation and invoices
Conduct regular internal audits and reviews of VAT processes to identify areas for improvement, enhance accuracy, and prevent errors
Incorporate VAT implications into financial forecasts and budgets to ensure accurate planning and allocation of VAT-related costs
Stay updated on changes in VAT laws, regulations, and reporting requirements, and adapt VAT strategies accordingly
Provide clear and transparent communication of VAT-related activities, risks, and opportunities to senior management and stakeholders
Managing capital gains
Oversee the Groups investment portfolio and monitor capital gains and losses generated from the buying and selling of securities
Ensure accurate calculation of capital gains and losses for securities and other financial instruments held by the group
Develop and implement tax-efficient investment strategies to optimise capital gains tax liabilities for the Group and its clients
Provide financial insights and analysis to guide trading and investment decisions, considering potential capital gains implications
Ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations related to capital gains reporting, withholding taxes, and documentation
Advise the Group on the potential capital gains tax implications of investment decisions and transactions
Analyse and manage the capital gains tax implications of cross-border investments and transactions
Identify and manage potential risks associated with capital gains tax calculations, reporting, and investment decisions
Stakeholder communication
Communicate tax-related insights and implications to relationship managers for effective client advisory
Engage with tax authorities to address inquiries, provide necessary documentation, and respond to audits or assessments for the group
Facilitate communication with external auditors to provide necessary information for tax-related audits
Participate in industry forums and conferences to stay informed about tax trends, best practices, and regulatory changes
Ensure clear and transparent reporting of tax-related activities, strategies, and outcomes in internal and external financial reports
Utilise technology platforms for efficient data sharing, reporting, and communication of tax-related information
